Time-Lapse App Reviews

Doesn’t work

Everytime I try to create a video it gives the error, “The movie contains an invalid data reference”. I’ve tried restarting, etc, and looking at the support pages (not much there). Also tried installing latest version from website.

Not suppoerted anymore

The version on here 1.7 is 5 versions behind the latest on their website, however the latest build they have does not work (crashes on launch) and there was no support email on the site. I was able to use the 1.7 version to do a time lapse movie - so 3 stars for that - but given it’s now an old and unsupported product, think twice before buying.

Nice little app, but doesnt support multiple orientation

I have tried almost every low-cost timelapse app in my quest to find the perfect solution for making time-lapse movies from 5,000+ images. The more elegant and simple apps will not ouput movies that accomodate both portrait and landscape orientations. Granted, I think this app WILL, but you have to hand-select every portrait landscaped image for vertical orientation, and that is a deal breaker for me. This app would be fine for photos all taken in one orientation.

Excellent software for making time lapse videos

Just downloaded it today. Works fine. The animated zoom rectangle feature is fabulous. Also nice to be able to save very high res videos. It’s very easy to leaner. The help file is a quick read and gives you what you need. I’m not doing day / night transitions, which might (?) stress this app. I use Lightroom to prepare JPGs from RAW, for this app.

Good Program

I am new to Mac, I have used windows junk all my life. In less than 2 minutes I created a time lapse movie from my Axis camera. Thank you for making it so easy

Works great! Does exactly what I need.

I had an animation image sequence that needed to be combined at 24 fps. This worked perfectly! Really happy to find this. Simple interface, fairly fast.

Jerky, crop fails

Output video was more jerky than Zietraffer, which is free. I liked the idea of being able to crop frames in this app, but it insists on constraining the aspect ratio, instead of just letting me crop out a bar at the top. So, it is useless for me. Wish I hadn’t paid for it.

Quality App

This honestly is the time-lapse application you want to invest your money in. One downfall is that you can’t live-view your time lapses before saving, but that isn’t much of a problem after you’ve messed around with it a few times. Another minor issue is that the videos the app creates tend to be extremely large (which can make the video choppy), but if you import and export through iMovie you’ll get an incredibly smooth time-lapse in a relatively small file, which is nice. I definitely reccomend this app! I even created a time-lapse with 10,000 photos so this app can really do a lot.

Great time saver!

I needed an app to quickly create a time lapse clip that will go into an iMovie video. iMovie can do it, but importing pictures, reducing the play length, and speeding them up not only took time, but often made iMovie crash. Time Lapse easily imported a folder full of images and created a time lapse movie in just a few minutes. It was money well spent!

Doesn’t quite work

It produced an animation that while the transitions were smooth, the base image jumped and jerked a couple of times. No way to fix or alter or even know why it’s happening. I even installed the non-mac-store version that is much newer than this one here. Wish they kept the official mac one up to date and would fix things like this. It was easy and looked very promising.

Was great until it stopped working!

This was a very useful app, I used it to make all of my timelapses, but just today, it stopped working! I tried to add photos to create a time lapse and it just loads and loads until the memory on the computer runs out “the startup disk is almost full” pops up. It would deserve a 5 start rating if it were functional.

Overall pretty good, takes getting used to

I’ve used Time-Lapse to both compile videos from digital photographs, as well as interval screenshots from my Mac. The program works pretty well, I’ve had a few issues here and there but it’s definitely worth the money. My biggest suggestion would be to re-work the AI to make it simpler to use, some things are not intuitive and require “fidgeting”. Also, multi-core optimization for people with more powerful Macs would definitely be a welcome addition!

I want my money back

The ap worked decent for about half a day. Since then, all it ever exported was a black screen. I made no changes to the settings, and nothing I do will make it work. Save yourself the time and money and don’t purchase this ap.

Excellent Bargain!

I’ve only done one time lapse with this app so far. It spanned 32 hours of a snowfall which included 2 sunsets and one sunrise. This app handled the 1900+ RAW images just fine. It wasn’t the easiest to figure out; I had to experiment with test images a couple times to learn my way around the program. I found it has some powerful features one wouldn’t expect for the money, most notably accessed through the Crop>Custom menu item. About the only feature my time lapse needed that “Time-Lapse” couldn’t handle is automatic exposure interpolation (aka RAW Blend, Holy Grail). This smoothly adjusts exposure transitions between daylight and nighttime. Unfortunately, you can’t get that unless you’re willing to pay 20x as much for a professional program. “Time-Lapse” does have a feature called tweening which comes close, but only works on the whole batch of images and not a select subset. As an improvement, I would suggest being able to drop your images onto a timeline where you can select only those images you want to edit using the app’s many tools. BTW, version 1.7 isn’t the latest. After you buy it here, you can go to the developer’s website to download version 1.15.

Very slow and frequenly crashes, unusable IMO.

I purchased this app to expedite some time lapse sequences I created and more often than not it would crash after taking a very long time to load the files and then process them. 8 times out of 10 I could not use this app and its various settings to process a large time lapse. Occasionally it would work, but it was a rare occurrence. And if I have to make 5 sequences and 3 of them won’t even process, no matter the settings, I simply can’t say this is a piece of software worth buying. I’m currently using an i7 MBP which is last years model, shouldn’t have any problems. Save your 5 bucks and avoid this.
